Chapter One

btw. The italic shows Jacks inner self talking, or if its one of the townspeople, then its their thoughts.

Jack was grumbling as he walked out of the church. Stupid mayor would never go for what Jack had going. There was no problem with wanting a real city hall, was there? Jack certainly didn't think so. He saw Popuri.
He hated Popuri.
He thought that his IQ might go down if he spent too much time with Popuri.
So Jack hid behind the lampost and prayed that the stupid airhead wouldn't notice him.
"Oh. Hi Jack! What are you doing behind that lamp-thing?" Oh well, he had tried.
"Er.. I was looking at the... building. Yeah, I was looking at the building!" Jack pointed behind himself. It's just a shame that there was no building behind him.
"Jack, I don't see a building. Where is it?"
"Oh, silly Popuri. You have to be S-M-R-T to see the invisible building." The ditz won't even realize our bluff...
"Oh, okay. I'll come back later."
Jack had come out of that unscathed by the airhead. He was lucky. What was luck though? Didn't we make it for ourself?
"Shut up, little voice in my head" Yeah, it's just too bad that I can't go away, asshat.
Manna was watching and listening to Jack battle with his inner self. She got up to go tell Duke about Jack's insecurities. Jack looked over suddenly. Great asshat, now she's gonna tell the rest of the town unless you can silence her. This is how we got purged from the last county...
Jack bounded after Manna. She looked over her shoulder with a smirk, that quickly turned to fear. He was going to kill her.
"Jack! Oh my! I promise I won't tell! Please!!"
"How do I know you won't spread it? Hm?" You'll have to kill the airhead, Jack. She will tell all.
Jack grasped Manna's throat.
Jack started squeezing it.
But he had a change of heart.
"Leave me alone, retarded little voice. You have no control over me!"
Jack let go of Manna's throat.
"Thank the Lord!" Manna gasped. Idiot! You bumbling idiot! She'll tell the mayor, the mayor will tell Zack, and Zack will kick our ass!
"I don't care. By the way, what the **** do I call you?" You call me Demminik.
"Alright, now I can stop calling you 'voice'. That's awesome Demminik." Jack said to himself.
He started strolling back to his house.

Chapter Two

Manna watched Jack's fading figure. You never make Manna mad. I'm too clever for you.
She hadn't acted clever. She hadn't even thought of anything. She had acted like a complete, whining, *****. She wouldn't tolerate it.
Okay, first step is to reassert independance and strength. Yeah, well, easier thing said than done. Well, better start now.
Manna picked herself up and straightened her shoulders. She then Manna strode back home.

Duke watched the door opening warily. It was probably Manna. Sure enough, it was Manna. But she was bedraggled.

Manna looked at Duke. He was gaping at her. "What are you staring at?" She snapped.
"Oh, um, you just look, a, um, little under the weather."
"Well you don't have to stare at me, Duke."
"Oh, yes, sorry Manna, dear."

Jack unlocked the door and let himself in. After checking the news and finding out it was gonna be a nice day, he pulled back the covers of his bed and hopped in.
he was so.. tired...
He had finished his daily stuff and was off to the beach. He loved it there. So calming. He changed out of his work clothes and walked down the lane to Rose Square. Manna was sitting on a bench and was talking to Anna and someone he didn't recognize. Their eyes met for a second, and Manna painfully remembered the confrontation of last night. She pretended she was watching a bird take flight when the other two women had asked what was going on. Jack walked onto the beach. Won came swaggering up. Jack hated Won too. Won was a swindling *******. 'Nuff said. Jack ignored Won and watched the sea roll in and out.
Then something unexpected happened. It had been a while since Won had left, but Zack came out wearing a tuxedo and carrying a rose. He was humming as he climbed the short flight of stairs. Jack felt very mischevious. He followed Zack. Then he saw Lillia. Lillia was sick wasn't she? But, she didn't look sick. Hi, you asshat. You could just ask me, you know. Jack blinked, he thought he had excorcized Demminik. But he evidently haven't.
"Alright, Demminik, is Lillia actually sick, or is it just a pretense?"
It's just a facade, fool. How do you think she keeps her blundering husband Rod away?
"Oh."
Zack and Lillia met and started strolling down towards the woods. Jack was tempted to follow, but he had an idea what was going to happen. But. They were going towards his house.
Jack followed them and let himself into his house. He ignored the fact that he knew about Lillia and Zack. Jack went to bed.

Chapter Three

Jack jerked awake. He had slept in. That was not good. Hey asshat, lets go. Get an apartment in the city somewhere, I don't know. Just no more farm. You have enough money, right? He had obviously rehearsed this topic of conversation, perhaps that was why he had slept in...
"I'm not moving Demminik. I like it here." Whatever, it was just a passing thought.
That made Jack start thinking. Did Demminik have his own mind, inside a mind? Well, whatever. He opened the door to find Won trying to sell him those crummy apples that Jack could grow himself.
"Hi, would you like any of my apples?"
"No thanks."
Won walked away from the small house. He hated Won. He never got the word 'no'. Jack strolled down to the bar. Too bad he always had to be sober. He resolved to come back at midnight to see if anyone was drunk. He'd bring a camera. So you wanna become a Manna male? Have fun running your butt off.
"Oh shut up, Demminik." Whatever, just voicing my opinion. He walked to the church. It was a beautiful Sunday. And, besides, Jack wanted to talk to Carter and Karen. Oh, great, you want to talk to a priest about me? Thats just great.
"I'd never tell anyone about you Demminik." Can I get that in writing?
"No."
Carter was at the door, and he was very happy.
"What's going on, Carter?"
"Karen is pregnant, Jack. We'd like him to work on a farm, and we were wondering that when he's older, if you would take him as an apprentice."
"Congratulations, Carter. But I don't know if I will be around Miineral Town when he's old enough."
"Oh, well, if you are still here then, Jack. It would mean a lot to Karen and I."
"Alright, Carter."
"Now Jack, we need to talk about something very serious, and I would like it if you could come to the backroom." Jack followed Carter into the Confession Booth,
"Okay Carter, what's the bombshell?" Jack, Carter knows about us. It's the end, I'll be excorcised from you. Oh no! Jack, don't let him!
"Jack. I know about Demminik."
Silence.
"How did you find out?"
"Manna told me." AHA!! I told you we had to kill her! Now you have to take my advice!
An hour later Jack left. He knew where to find Manna. She was walking to Rose Square. She would never arrive.

Jack rolled the body into the deep grave. He had made it very quick. But she had fought back. Manna never would back down from a challenge. If you haven't noticed, I'm beginning to take over your mind. And next, we need to hit Carter.
"I can't kill Carter! He is a priest. He is also my friend, and he has a child on the way. I refuse to kill him."
Fine, I'll just take you by force then.

Demminik hit Jack with all his strength. The man reached out blindly and sought for a refuge from the pain. He couldn't find one. He felt resistance to his power. Jack turned the pain into hatred, and that was a very strong feeling. Jack was not going to give up easily.

Jack felt as though someone like Zack had hit him with a hammer on the head. He willed the pain to stop. And it did. He sighed a breath of relief. It was gone. Temporarily. That was what it felt like to be taken by force. But he hadn't been taken. Jack hoped it would never happen again. He wouldn't survive the next bout.

Feedback? Be honest. I hate lies.

Chapter Four

For the next ten years everything went fine. Demminik must have left Jack alone, because he never surfaced again and Jack never spoke to himself again. But one fateful day, something horrible happened.

Hey, asshat, thought you got rid of me eh? You can't get rid of me, asshat. Jack groaned. A lethal bout was surely to follow. Come on, Jack, can you take it?
"Yeah, I can take it, Demminik." You know you're lying, Jack. You know you could die from this.
Jack was whirled into a dream.

Demminik had red eyes and had cold features. A person could see the vein in his face, including his lips. He was terrifying. Jack struggled to his feet. I said it Jack. You cannot survive my amazing power. And if that thought went through your mind. Consider it from yours truly. The voice was high and cold. Demminik gazed at Jack with a mesmerizing air. Jack held his gaze defiantly. Demminik struck with memories. The memory of killing Manna. Jack started to crumble under the extreme pressure. A normal person could never stand up to it. But Jack had good memories. Memories of geting his first cow. His first win against Demminik, and truth. Truth was very important. Demminik was 500 years old. He was supposed to be long gone.
The truth for the spirit would be the fact that he was dead long ago.

I know, in the extremes of short.
