It is time! And yes, Jack was actually shot, get used to it. And, I hate being predictable.

Jack opened his eyes. He had just been shot and he was now staring up at something brown. Was this heaven? He didn't feel anything, maybe it was. He was lying down, was he on a cloud? Then he looked around only to see Gotz staring at him.
"Oh good, you've come to."
"But, the bullets, the blood, the red!"
"Oh, I have an explanation."
"Gotz? You did this?"
"I may have had a minor involvement in the resolution of all your problems, yes."
"Explain."
"After the water gun incident, I thought that that was all silliness, then it struck me, food coloring. I simply got a water gun and brought a device that made loud noises much akin to gunfire while creating a flash of light. Here."
And Gotz handed Jack a peppermint candy. (This actually works too!)
"I simply bit down on the candy and a spark came out, creating the effect of the gun fire, while I simply used a few paper bags which I had filled earlier. Oh yes, the blood. It was nothing but red food coloring. It is completely harmless, all that might come out of it is a couple stained shirts."
"But, but, I thought you said that all your solutions come from the Kappa?"
"I said that to completely put you off on your own trail. I knew that if I said that, you would try anyway, and at the moment I knew the Goddess wouldn't marry you, as I didn't want that to happen."
"Why not."
"Well, just, oh, here he is."
Carter walked in. It was the day after his wedding night. He was black as coal. It looked like it hurt. His clothes were burnt to a crisp, barely covering his, er, parts.
"Who would've thought that the Goddess could summon fire at a whim. We had a row last night, don't touch my hand! It still hurts from being sent to the realm of shadows and back. So, Gotz what did you need me for?"
"Oh, you can go home now."
"Right ho then!"
And Carter walked away. Jack's jaw would've hit the floor if it hadn't already done so after Gotz's explanation of the solution.
"You see, I tried to warn you not to hit on deities, when they have tantrums, they well, hurt things."
"So, this was really a big complex plot to help me? But what about the Kappa, he threatened to beat me to a jelly!"
"Well, I wasn't responsible for that, but it did serve to test how much you really wanted to marry the Goddess."
"And he won't hurt Carter?"
"Well, the Kappa knows that Carter is the Goddess' husband, and as such, should he harm him in anyway, he would get in bad stance with the Goddess."
"Gotz, are you a genius?"
"I would prefer not to comment on that."
"Oh, well, thanks and all that, I'll see you later."
And Jack walked home. As he reclined in his armchair, he realized that Gotz had actually shot him with a water pistol with red food coloring in it. That gave him a wicked, evil, and slightly sadistic idea. He ran to get "supplies".

This may seem like the end, but it isn't. It's almost there, but not quite, I'll try to wrap it up next post.

Epilogue
---
Kappa was enjoying himself. He was in that state where he wanted to be asleep, but didn't want to open his eyes. He just sat about, reclining on his underwater chair. He kept waiting around to go back to sleep. He wanted to sleep, eating cucumbers and beating up mortals was hard work! Well, he had to get up sometime. And with that, he opened his eyes. There was no noticeable difference. Everything was still black. He couldn't see his armchair, he couldn't see the bubbles, he couldn't see fish, he couldn't see his cucumber collection that he was saving for a rainy day. Maybe he had forgotten to open his eyes. He tried again. His eyes were open. He rubbed his eyes. All he saw was black. Darkness. That was all. No figure of light which he could use for a reference point. He swam around. Nothing, it was all black. He swam up to the surface. He opened his eyes there. And what he saw, surprised him. He began screaming. Instead of the peaceful blue of the lake, he saw black, the entire pond was black. He then looked at himself, he was covered in black, and if the black was in the water, it must've soaked into his skin, and if that happened, it would take weeks to get off. His home, his belongings, all black. He screamed like a wuss, and he did not remember when he stopped.
---
And as the Kapa screamed, there was a rustle of branches, as a small figure up there began trying to restrain laughter. Although Jack's hands were black, it was worth it. Jack didn't mind the ink all over his clothes. He had gotten his revenge. Revenge was a dish best served cold. Jack was smart.
